WHY TRAIN WITH US IN NEWCASTLE
Ready to get started? Enrol now or Get in touch to register your interest and we’ll let you know our next intake date.
Newcastle sits on Awabakal and Worimi Country, and its coastline, rivers and dunes hold some of the richest Aboriginal cultural heritage on the NSW coast. Across Stockton Bight, the Worimi Conservation Lands are jointly managed by the Worimi people and NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service, and the shifting dunes regularly expose shell middens, campsites and stone artefacts. With steady development across the port, suburbs and Hunter corridor, more people need to know how to recognise and protect that heritage.
Our cultural heritage training in Newcastle is built for that work. ECHAM Training’s trainers are practising archaeologists and heritage professionals, so courses focus on what crews, rangers and project teams actually encounter: middens, stone artefacts, culturally sensitive landforms, and the steps NSW law requires when something is found.
COURSES IN DEMAND IN NEWCASTLE
For most of it, yes. Course theory is delivered online, so you can study from Newcastle, Lake Macquarie or Port Stephens. Accredited courses that need practical assessment include scheduled on-Country sessions, and we confirm the location for each intake when you enrol.
Often, yes. Many NSW project approvals, Aboriginal cultural heritage management plans and due diligence assessments require workers to complete a cultural heritage induction before ground disturbance. Our online Aboriginal Cultural Heritage Site Induction covers what Aboriginal objects look like, your obligations under the National Parks and Wildlife Act 1974 and what to do if you find something. Check your project’s conditions for its exact requirement.
It is the current replacement. AHC31424 Certificate III in Conservation and Ecosystem Management is the national qualification that superseded the older Conservation and Land Management certificates. It covers the same kind of work, such as bush regeneration, weed control and site restoration, updated to current industry standards.
