Accredited Training that Protects Heritage
For over 30 years, the team behind ECHAM Training has been working on Country across NSW and the east coast, completing Aboriginal cultural heritage assessments, archaeological surveys, and heritage management projects for communities, councils, government agencies, and private developers. [echa.com.au]
Over those decades, one thing became clear. There was a serious gap in the training sector. A gap that was putting cultural heritage at risk.
We Saw the Need
We worked alongside people who had deep cultural knowledge, strong connections to Country, and a genuine commitment to protecting heritage. But many of those people lacked the formal qualifications to be fully recognised for that work, to lead projects, or to access the career pathways they deserved.
At the same time, we saw industry professionals, contractors, planners, and developers who needed practical, grounded training in Aboriginal cultural heritage compliance but who struggled to find courses that were both technically rigorous and culturally respectful.
The training sector was not keeping pace. There were few nationally accredited courses that authentically reflected Aboriginal perspectives on heritage, land management, and governance. The options that existed were often limited, inaccessible, or disconnected from real-world practice on Country. [echamtraining.edu.au]
We knew we had the expertise, the field experience, and the cultural understanding to change that.
So we did.
What ECHAM Training Is
ECHAM Training, short for East Coast Heritage and Management Training, is a First Nations-focused Registered Training Organisation (RTO 46476), registered with ASQA to deliver nationally accredited training across Australia. [linkedin.com]
We are committed to delivering culturally informed, industry-relevant education that empowers individuals and communities to protect, manage, and engage with First Nations cultural heritage. Through high-quality, accredited training, we equip learners with the knowledge, skills, and confidence to lead in heritage, land management, and business environments. [echamtraining.edu.au]
Our training is designed and delivered by practitioners who understand what competence looks like on the ground, not just on paper. Our programs are practical, culturally respectful, and job-ready.

Business and Leadership
This is where ECHAM Training goes beyond heritage, and deliberately so.
We recognised early on that the communities and individuals we work with needed more than technical qualifications. They needed the business skills, leadership capabilities, and professional confidence to run enterprises, manage teams, and build sustainable futures.
Our Business and Leadership courses include:
- BSB50420 Diploma of Leadership and Management for people who lead teams and manage day-to-day operations
- BSB60420 Advanced Diploma of Leadership and Management for experienced leaders responsible for strategic direction and organisational performance [echamtraining.edu.au]
These courses are designed with First Nations learners in mind. The content is contextualised, the delivery is culturally safe, and the learning environment is built around respect and inclusion.
But they are not exclusive. Anyone can enrol. These are nationally recognised qualifications valuable to anyone working in heritage, land management, community services, or small business, regardless of background. We simply make sure the environment is one where Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander learners feel genuinely welcomed, supported, and seen.
Built for Community. Open to Everyone.
ECHAM Training was founded with First Nations people at its centre. Their knowledge, their aspirations, and their right to be recognised as qualified professionals in fields deeply connected to their culture will always be our focus. [echamtraining.edu.au]
But we are not an exclusive organisation. Our courses are open to government workers, developers, planners, environmental consultants, contractors, and community organisations. Anyone who wants to learn, do better, and contribute to the responsible management of cultural heritage and land.
Protecting Aboriginal cultural heritage is not only the responsibility of Aboriginal people. It is a shared obligation. Better training across the whole sector leads to better outcomes for Country, for communities, and for the projects we all work on.
Our Vision
To be a nationally recognised leader in cultural heritage training, bridging tradition and innovation, by building a skilled, respectful, and culturally aware workforce that supports sustainable land use, enterprise, and the preservation of First Nations knowledge for future generations.
